Haymakers Country Store is located in our home, an old farmhouse built around 1850. We are located in beautiful West Brookfield a little more than a stone's throw from the common. The common was once mentioned in "Yankee Magazine" as one of the most beautiful commons in New England.
We are a proud family of 7 plus here at Haymakers . Some have grown up and moved on now.
It is really mama's business, aka Karen Ann Lopez. I had hoped for it to be a family business at one time and to grow with our family but life takes many turns along the way. My children, 3 who are now adults, are all very talented, creative and productive people. I still have two kids at home that are learning to work with wood and sew. They help mom out and to experience the feeling of producing something with your own hands. My youngest daughter has been making some lovely jewelry that I carry in the shop. My oldest daughter designs and creates friendly lil monsters, Jitterbugs. All of my children love to take photos and have a keen eye. I myself am an avid amatuer photographer and have won a few ribbons. We are all healthy and blessed to have this lil homestead to gather together... it has been a struggle to hang on to like so many others in this country.
We are a Christian family, some more liberal than others, but still with a faith grounded in Christ. My faith has never been a problem in conducting business that I am aware of. I have conservative beliefs. What I believe does not reflect in how I treat others... there is nobody in this world that is better than another in my opinion.
My husband recently graduated from Quinsigamond Community College with Highest Honors with an Associates Degree in Science. I am very proud of him. It took him a long time to finish while working hard and raising our family. But he did it!
It has not always been easy having a business at home with one affecting the other and vice versa... The family has sacraficed for me to be able to have this. I have always wanted to be a stay at home mom and thought it was important to do so.
Along the way I have had a few different business endeveours... When the children were young I had craft booths at the Cape and would travel down to fill them periodicly. I had a cleaning business that my oldest daughters would assist me with. I have taught an adult education sewing & design class and created and taught a series of classes for children at our local library. I have been the web designer and web master for a half dozen businesses. I have also designed brochures, menus and invitations for folks. I love to create floral arrangements, have designed and made dolls and have done woodworking.
Most of our home improvements we have done ourselves over the years in order to save money. Our landscaping is modest but was done by all of us with the help from my Dad.
I want to thank all of my children, my parents and my husband for all the help and support over the years.
I also want to thank all my friends and customers for their support over the years. Thank you kindly.. .Karen A. Lopez
